Distinguished Industrial Hygienist Award

Congratulations to Veritox Senior Industrial Hygienist Stephanie Carter who was presented with the Distinguished Industrial Hygienist award during the Northwest Occupational Hygiene Conference by the Pacific Northwest AIHA local section (PNS-AIHA). The awarded is presented annually to a PNS-AIHA member in recognition of their contribution to the profession, years of service, and local or national leadership. Amongst previous esteemed recipients is Veritox Senior Industrial Hygienist Michael Krause, who won the award in 1998.

WSCAI Community Action Day 2017

Veritox welcomes Surakshya Dhakal, MS, a summer intern with our exposure sciences group. Ms. Dhakal is a full-time PhD student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle, where she is specializing in exposure sciences and pursuing her interest in new sampling and analytical methods, biomarkers of exposure, and data analysis.

While at Veritox, Ms. Dhakal will be working on a review of exposure studies on diacetyl with Dr. Coreen Robbins.

Talc and Ovarian Cancer

Dr. Nadia Moore attended and presented at the 6th Annual Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation organized by the ACI (American Conference Institute) on June 21-23, 2017 in Chicago.

Dr. Moore was invited to present as part of the session entitled Talc – the Next Asbestos? Analyzing the Recent Explosion of Talc Related Claims. Her presentation reviewed the scientific dataset for talc toxicity, the epidemiological dataset for association with ovarian cancer, and conducted a step-by-step analysis of the dataset with the Bradford Hill Criteria to demonstrate the current scientific dataset fails to establish perineal application of talc as a cause of ovarian cancer.

AIHce 2017

Dr. Coreen Robbins and Clara Chan each presented at an education session at AIHce 2017 entitled IEQ Molds and Mycotoxins: Current Issues. We enjoyed seeing many of you at our booth at the AIHce 2017 in Seattle, WA. See you next year at AIHce 2018 in Philadelphia, PA.

UW MS in Applied Toxicology

Veritox supports the University of Washington School of Public Health's new Master's of Science in Applied Toxicology program by providing summer Field Studies opportunities. The program trains students to compete for jobs in private industry, federal, state or local government agencies, or academic institutions that require an MS degree.

Nadia Moore elected as PANWAT Vice-President

Congratulations to Dr. Nadia Moore for her recent election as Vice-President of the Pacific Northwest Association of Toxicologists (PANWAT).
