Biographical SketchesBruce J. Kelman, PhD, DABT, FATSBruce J. Kelman, PhD, DABT, FATS, holds positions as Principal and President of VERITOX®. Dr. Kelman has more than 30 years experience in toxicology and has served as a consultant and expert in numerous investigations across North America. He has evaluated numerous claims of personal injury and health impacts from many chemicals and drugs, and has presented a variety of health risk concepts to policy makers, government regulators, citizen groups, and individuals involved in all aspects of the legal process. Dr. Kelman holds a PhD from the University of Illinois (1975) and is certified in toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology (original certification in 1980 with recertifications in 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000). He is a Registered Toxicologist with both the United Kingdom and EUROTOX registries. His research has focused on components of health risk models including mechanistic studies aimed at quantifying exposure of critical organ systems, and includes more than 100 scientific publications. Dr. Kelman has experience with a variety of chemical and physical agents (including pollutants, pesticides, solvents, vapors, metals, microbial agents, ionizing radiation, and electric and magnetic fields), exposure scenarios (including environmental, occupational, residential, and clinical), and routes of exposure (including but not limited to inhalation, oral, and percutaneous). He has conducted health-effects evaluations of a variety of contaminated environmental sites and has experience with numerous air and water quality issues. Dr. Kelman is a member of the Society of Toxicology, American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, British Toxicology Society, American College of Toxicology, American Society for Experimental Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, and Teratology Society. He served as a member of the National Research Council/National Academy of Science Committee on Possible Effects of Electromagnetic Fields on Biologic Systems. One of Dr. Kelman’s publications was chosen by the American Industrial Hygiene Association as the best IEQ-related paper published in 2000 in a U.S. industrial hygiene journal. Dr. Kelman was a co-author of the evidence-based position statement “Adverse Human Health Effects Associated with Molds in the Indoor Environment” issued by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in 2002.
