Bryan D. Hardin, PhD, FATS

Bryan D. Hardin, PhD, FATS, is a Principal with VERITOX®, Inc. He was commissioned into the US Public Health Service and began his public health career with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in 1972, where he served in research, policy, and management roles, culminating as Deputy Director of NIOSH and Assistant Surgeon General in the Public Health Service.

Dr. Hardin holds a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Cincinnati. While in the NIOSH Experimental Toxicology Branch, significant research findings included identification of reproductive and developmental toxicity associated with the ethylene glycol ethers. Throughout his career at NIOSH, Dr. Hardin was involved in the development of science-based health and safety recommendations and with risk assessment and risk communication. In Washington, DC, Dr. Hardin was the NIOSH point of contact for industry, organized labor, and federal agencies having interest in NIOSH and its actions. This included a 1-year detail to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health.

Dr. Hardin is a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, and a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the American College of Toxicology, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the Society of Toxicology, and the Teratology Society. He has served on working groups of the World Health Organization, the International Labor Office, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer. He is a past Chair of the Interagency Testing Committee, was a member of the EPA’s Endocrine Disrupters Screening and Testing Advisory Committee and is currently a member of the AIHA’s Emergency Response Planning Guidelines (ERPG) Committee.
